Aliner Classic vs. Rockwood Hard Side: A-Frame Campers Compared

Hard-sided A-frame campers combine the light weight and low profile of a pop-up with the security and insulation of solid walls. Setup takes only a minute or two: unlatch the roof and raise the panels. Two brands lead the category.

The brands

Aliner invented the A-frame camper in the 1970s and still focuses almost entirely on this design. Forest River's Rockwood Hard Side series is the main competitor, backed by one of the largest RV manufacturers in North America.

Weight and towing

Construction

Aliner uses vacuum-bonded fiberglass panels and aluminum framing to keep weight down. Rockwood uses vacuum-bonded fiberglass walls, roof and floor on a powder-coated steel frame for extra rigidity.

Inside

Both offer a dinette that converts to a bed, a small kitchen with a sink and stove and options such as air conditioning, heat and a wet bath on larger models. Rockwood tends to include more features as standard. Aliner offers more customization.

Price

Pricing overlaps, with both brands ranging from the low $20,000s to the $30,000s depending on model and options. Check current dealer pricing.

Which to choose

Pick an Aliner if low weight and towing flexibility matter most. Pick a Rockwood if you prefer a sturdier steel frame and more standard features.

Heads up: specs, prices and campground rules change. Verify with the manufacturer, dealer or land agency before you travel, and follow Leave No Trace when camping off-grid.
